For a spring atmosphere, you should take your cues from Easter colors. These are pastels, light, airy hues, including greens, yellows, and pink tones. Generally holidays such as Easter are associated with certain colors, not for religious or historical reasons, but because of the season they represent. That is why you can often use holiday patterns as a crutch, when you are having trouble determining the best way to evoke the season.
The biggest issue people seem to come across in their kitchen is space. They run out of counter space when cooking or get frustrated when there is no place to put new dishes. This needs to be the first plan set in motion when working on a small kitchen design plan. You will want to make sure you have enough counter space in your design. You can never have enough counter space since they are used for so many things from storing food and appliances to food preparations. If you plan to eat on your counter or if you have a bar, then you will need more space than what you have. You can maximize counter space by installing an island. It gives you storage and extra counter space. A good kitchen cabinet design is helpful in maximizing storage space. Mixers, bowls and items used less frequently can be stored in cabinets.
Summer seasonal décor is a bit trickier, as there aren`t very many major holidays over the course of the warmest months. You have things like the Fourth of July, but those colors are patriotic, and don`t necessarily have anything to do with the environment. For summer, use earth tones, and soft adobe colors. Hues which evoke a sense of warmth, and sun baked comfort are especially popular at this time of the year. Red, yellow, and orange tones are also popular. However you should be careful with more extreme colors, as you can end up making a space feel warmer than it needs to, in an already hot time of the year. If however you are beating back winter with a summer seasonal style, then you can pretty much go as hot as you want.
Granite and marble countertop must be quarried, which requires a lot of energy. Transport also can be expensive and environmentally detrimental if the stone needs to be shipped a great distance. Using indigenous stone from salvage or remnants significantly reduces environmental impact. Granite is virtually indestructible, provides a high-end designer look and is heatproof. But it also is very expensive, can crack and requires periodic sealing. Marble likewise provides a high-end look and is waterproof and heatproof. On the downside, it`s expensive, can scratch and stains easily unless professionally sealed.
Kitchen cabinet doors are one of the most important storages that we need to have in our homes. It will be a place to store foods, and other kitchen materials. Sometimes, there are hoses with cabinets in the kitchen that doesn`t have doors. To solve this problem, we need to make our own. The doors for the kitchen cabinets will provide a closure for our storage keeping the inside items fresh, clean, and free from any kitchen hazards like mice and bugs.
While many homeowners reserve tile for floors and backsplashes, tile countertops can be an excellent—and affordable—option. Ceramic tile is impervious to heat and water, and when properly glazed, it won`t stain. Proper sealant helps ensure grout won`t discolor or stain, and large-format tiles cover a lot of area with minimal grout lines. Still most popular out west, ceramic tile is a solid option worth a second look.
Manufacturing ceramic tile requires large amounts of energy because the tiles are fired twice. Installing ceramic tile can affect indoor air quality (IAQ). To protect air quality, install tiles with solvent-free mastic on a durable, rot-proof surface such as cement backer board. Also choose grout sealers free of formaldehyde and low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Ceramic tile is easy to clean, heatproof and available in a wide range of colors, textures and designs. It`s also durable and can contain recycled content such as glass, porcelain, salvaged ceramic scrap or feldspar tailings. Using ceramic tile does create an uneven counter surface, however. Individual tiles can easily chip or crack, and grout can stain. Costs vary widely based on the tile choice and difficulty of installation.
