There are a few special needs that a vertical container garden will have. There will be less insect infestation, but the plants will need watering more frequently in dry weather. The amount of humidity in the air will directly affect how often you will need to water. Adding an organic fertilizer will be important because plants that are grown inside do not have a natural way of becoming fertilized. A slow release fertilizer is great fed to the plants about every seven to ten days.
Some starter herbs to try out a new way of container gardening in the vertical style are mint, bay laurel, sage, thyme, and rosemary. Each of these herbs will grow quite successfully in vertical container gardens. This is an excellent way to control very aggressive plants such as mints. You can grow as many varieties as you like without being worried that your whole garden or yard will be taken over by mint plants that you did not intend to have in that particular spot.
